VIAWEB DEMO


January 1997 demo of Viaweb, likely the first web-based application for building and hosting online stores, by co-founder Paul Graham. Yahoo! Inc. bought Viaweb in 1998 and renamed it Yahoo! Store. (27 minutes, 1997)

o   What is Viaweb?  A combined authoring tool and hosting service that is the first true end-user system for selling on the web. Aims to become the “Microsoft Word of making online stores.”

o   Make a store in 5 minutes  “What you see is what you get.” Does not require user to work on level of code. Viaweb can create links and images on the fly and easily change colors and fonts across the site.

o   Buying through Viaweb Easy to place and change order

o   Store Management Retrieving order through the website

o   Data Viaweb reports statistics on orders, hit counts, income per visit, referrer, amount spent, and time periods. Graphs show trends over time.

o   Conclusion  Viamall is one of biggest malls on the web, with currently 38,785 items and 2.1 million page views per month
